hiya. first of all good forum chaps.. nice and active with plenty of info. :D

right... i've had a good look around and need to ask your opinions and advice..

i'm possibly looking to change my wife's audi a4 avant ('98 2.4v6 auto) for a

2001 2.8 ghia auto with high miles (over 90k)...

having looked around the forum there are threads about

* linkages?

* expensive to fix aircon

* wet footwells

* mpg - tho looks like there is a obsession with diesel mpgs!

so..chaps and chapesses...

re mpg.. the audi returns low 20's and wife does low mileage so not tooo worried about that...

7 seats... is a must... wife is a childminder and needs the extra space

auto again is a must and she wont drive manual...

so any hints.tips.etc etc

in particular...

how unsupportive/supportive are the rear seats (rows 2&3)?

electrical gemlins?

sorry if thats all jumbled... but ya get the idea...

:D

:D

Well you seem to have hit the search engine and found most of the usual problems that seem to occur on a annoying regularity :D the seats are the usual VW affair firm and hard wearing :D I think they learnt from the MK2 Golf seat bolster failures :D

your right about the TDI brigade :D I'm supprised one of the TDI muppet's hasnt posted how good their MPG is, give it time and I'll sure one of the OAP's will pop in and tell you :D

40+ round town :D

if it had been my car it would have been a v6, it's not so isn't.

you can always fit a second fuel tank.

blah blah blah

either way petrol or diesel it's better than a minibus or an espace or even a zafira

Not rising to VR6's derogatory comments, he's just an overgrown boy racer. At the end of the day if you want something fast you don't buy a Galaxy. If you want something practical you don't buy a VR6 it's a simple concept that he seems unable to get his single brain cell around.

It would seem that fuel consumption is irrelevant for you so why not a VR6! go for it and enjoy.

Timing chains CAN be an issue and an expensive one, listen to it start from stone cold when oil has had time to drain back overnight or longer, for any rattles (imagine a bike chain being pulled over the edge of a work surface. If that noise is heard and then disappears about 4 or 5 seconds later be careful. If it's there for half a second or so no problem.

Make sure ALL electrics work

Check the CC / Aircon is working

Wind the spare wheel down all the way and back again to check the winch.

Good luck and enjoy.

if it's been raining & the car has been wet check the passengers side footwell for wet/dampness

the bugger tends to leak from the bulk head filter

water build up there

look under the bonnet passengers side to see if

you can see if water has built up there

look for a line like you may see in a bath after the kiddies been in there

well mine a dirty buggers lol

i hope you enjoy

the flooding it not a prob as it's blocked drain holes that

causes it
